Spring Clean Your Business

Today is the first day of Spring, which makes it a perfect time to do a little spring cleaning in your business. We are all searching for a bit of control, especially when our lives and businesses are out of whack and uncertain. I’m very lucky that my business is completely virtual, but many others are not so lucky. To that end, know that everyone is in the same position of uncertainty, and that there isn’t much anyone can do about it.

With all this in mind, take stock of what you can do for your business (and for yourself) right now. I am preparing content for the next month, and checking in with clients so that we are on the same page with strategy. In my last post, 5 Ways to be Productive Working from Home, I mentioned the importance of keeping to your routine. Now is the perfect time to take a look at your routine. Can you improve it in some way? Is there something missing? How can it be more effective?

Experiment a little. Try exercising first thing in the morning instead of at night. Write your to-do list the night before, so that it’s ready when you wake up. Something I’m still trying to figure out is how to set my coffee maker to start the coffee on a timer, but so far that’s not working so well.

My point is this: if your business is slow or uncertain right now, use this time wisely. Take a look at your processes, your routines, everything, and see how you can improve them. Take a course or participate in webinars. Practice a skill so you can add it to your list of services.

Spring is a time of renewal, of new beginnings. Focus on the opportunity for improvement you have right now - you may not be able to see the benefits right away, but this current global panic will not last forever. It will end, because it always does, and life will go on. It always does. Each day that passes brings us closer to the next beginning, so make sure you’re ready for it. Put systems in place so that another time of uncertainty will leave you less financially stressed. Create ways of generating passive income, for example ebooks or courses.
